Allergy Testing

Personalized, Comfortable Allergy Evaluation

At Breathe Easy Allergy, we know that every patient’s allergy profile is unique. That’s why we customize testing to each individual, using the least invasive and least painful methods possible. Our goal is to accurately identify your triggers so we can create an effective treatment plan that provides lasting relief.

Skin Prick Testing – The Gold Standard of Diagnosis

Skin prick testing is the most accurate and cost-effective way to diagnose environmental and some food allergies. This simple procedure uses a small, plastic-tipped device to place tiny amounts of potential allergens just beneath the surface of your skin — usually on your forearm or back. Within 15–20 minutes, we can see if a reaction occurs, indicating sensitivity to that allergen.

Benefits of skin prick testing include:

  • Minimal discomfort
  • Rapid results during your appointment
  • Coverage by most insurance plans
  • No needles or injections for initial testing

Intradermal Testing – When More Detail is Needed

Intradermal testing may be recommended if your skin prick test is negative or unclear but allergy is still suspected. This method involves injecting a very small amount of allergen just under the skin’s surface using a fine needle. It is more sensitive than skin prick testing and is often used to detect allergies to insect venom, certain environmental allergens, or when more precise results are required.

Our team uses intradermal testing selectively to ensure you get the most accurate diagnosis without unnecessary discomfort.

Preparing for Your Test

Some medications can interfere with allergy testing results. Before your appointment, we’ll provide a list of medications to avoid so your results are as accurate as possible. If you’re not sure whether a medication you take will affect testing, our team will be happy to review it with you.

Additional Testing Options

In certain situations, we may also recommend blood testing — particularly for patients who cannot undergo skin testing or require additional confirmation of results.
